The Past is Prologue

We will be featuring a prominent Briard from the past in each issue of Le Magazine. This Briard is
Ch. Jennie d’El Pastre HOF, ROM - “Jennie” was a remarkable Briard, owned by Art and Mary Lou
Tingley. Both showed her to Bests in Show over her career as a special. Jennie was a national specialty
winner in 1976 . She was also Winners Bitch in 1975 .
She was imported from her noted French breeder, Jacky Molinier. Originally Mary Lou had
expected a pup from his I litter, Iris, but since M. Molinier was repeating the breeding the following year
she opted to go with the J litter. It turned out to be one of those great turns of fate that just made a world
of difference. Iris was a nice puppy, Jennie was stupendous.
Jennie was bred in 1979 to the Tingley’s & Ackerson’s “Happy”, Am/Can/Bda Ch. Phydeaux
What’s Happenin’ CD. That was a very well known litter with 4 daughters going on to become champions
and having litters that also produced successful young Briards. They were CHs. Phydeaux Peppermint
Pattie; Portrait of Jennie; Polly Poulet and Penny Lane. Their litters were at Radieux (MD), Dansr (VA),
Bonheur (IL) and Landlyn’s (CA). Jennie was bred a 2nd time to “Hesse”, Ch Richlen Steppenwolf in
1982. The most well-known from that litter were Woody (Ch Phydeaux Take the Money and Run) and
Twister, (Ch Phydeaux Twist and Shout). both of whom were used at stud, Woody at Deja Vu (OH) and
Twister at his home at Ardon’s (TX).
Jennie dominated the eastern show ring in the 1970’s where she competed in the large old Work-
ing Group when earning a Group One was an amazing accomplishment for a Briard. She parlayed 4 of
those wins into Bests in Shows. She was a Number One Briard in her hey day, until she retired to mother-
hood, allowing “Happy” come out to play and have his stellar moments in the show ring limelight.
