Safe Summer Tips for Dogs
Sun Tips: Dogs can get a sunburn! Dogs, especially those with short
hair, white fur, and pink skin can sunburn. Limit your dog’s exposure
during the day and apply sunblock to his ears and nose 30 minutes
before going outside.
Fireworks: Dogs can be startled by the loud noise of ireworks.
Once the festivities begin, keep your dog in a safe room where he
can feel comfortable. Block outside sounds and sights by leaving the
TV on.
Foot Pads: Dogs can have a problem when walking on blacktop,
sidewalks, or other surfaces during warm weather. Their paws can
burn and peel. This can be very painful and necessitate emergency
care. To prevent this, try to keep your dog from walking or playing on
hot surfaces for extended periods of time during high temperature
days. Try to restrict activity to early or late times of the day when it
is cooler, and seek areas with shade. If you see your dog limping or
licking his paws or if the paws appear damaged, take your dog to
