How Many Briard “jelly beans” can you count in this photo?
The photo is a digital xray taken of a pregnant Briard shortly before she whelped her litter. How many can you
find? The skulls are clearer to see
but in some cases looking for spines where puppies over lap helps one arrive at a more accurate number.
In this case that number is 9.
Using late pregnancy xrays takes the guess out of “how many more are ‘in there’ “ for breeders. If a bitch pro-
duces fewer than what shows on the xrays, a breeder knows when it’s time to call the vet before the bitch and
puppy get in to serious trouble.
